Welcome to the Marcham Society website
The Marcham Society was founded in 1994 to encourage community interest in the archaeology, history, natural history and environment of the village and the local area. The ammonite, Perisphinctus pickeringius, symbol of the Marcham Society, is a local geological reference. The original named specimen was found in Marcham. The local Corallian limestone also referred to as 'Coral Rag' contains many such fossils.
The Society publishes pamphlets and booklets, particularly the series named "Coral Rag" which contains articles written by our members on a variety of topics of local interest. ( Please see the link to: Publications )
We arrange eight evening meetings each year with talks by guest speakers or members and we meet on the fourth Monday of the month in the Main Hall of Marcham Centre where refreshments are served.
On Wednesday evenings a group of amateur but enthusiastic astronomers meet in the Small Hall. There are also monthly 'midweek walks' usually on a Thursday as well as organised group visits to local places of interest.
( For details of these meetings and all other events see : Programme)
